Where did the Oxford literary group known as the Inklings usually meet?

The story behind the answer

The Inklings usually met at The Eagle and Child in Oxford.

The Inklings was an informal literary discussion group associated with Oxford University. Its members included C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Charles Williams, and Owen Barfield. Meetings often involved reading aloud and discussing works in progress, rather than following the format of a formal academic society.

The Eagle and Child, an Oxford pub on St Giles’, became the group’s best-known meeting place. Members also met in Lewis’s rooms at Magdalen College and in other locations, so the pub was important but not their only venue.

The group’s conversations connected two major twentieth-century fantasy writers. Tolkien read portions of The Lord of the Rings to fellow Inklings, while Lewis shared drafts and ideas that developed into several of his own books.
