When was the SAG Awards name change to Actor Awards announced?

The story behind the answer

The change from SAG Awards to Actor Awards was announced on November 14, 2025.

SAG-AFTRA said the new name was intended to reflect the ceremony’s identity as an industry honor presented by actors for actors. The rebranding became visible at the 32nd ceremony, held on March 1, 2026.

Several nearby dates can cause confusion. December 18, 2025, was the announcement that Harrison Ford would receive the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award. January 7, 2026, was the date nominations were announced. March 1 was the ceremony itself.

Although the event adopted the Actor Awards title, it remained part of the same awards tradition associated with SAG-AFTRA and the former Screen Actors Guild Awards. The ceremony continued to honor film and television acting, ensemble, and stunt performances.
