The British television show Dragon's Den first aired on BBC Two in 2005.
The programme premiered on 4 January 2005, adapting the format in which entrepreneurs pitch business ideas to wealthy investors. The investors can offer money in exchange for a share of the business.
Dragon's Den is part of an international format that originated in Japan. Its British version became especially associated with the phrase “I’m out,” used when an investor decides not to make an offer.
The programme is sometimes confused with the similarly structured BBC series The Apprentice, but the two shows have different formats: Dragon's Den centres on investment pitches, while The Apprentice focuses on business tasks and employment.
