Answer
4 January 2005
The BBC first broadcast the British television show Dragon's Den on 4 January 2005.
The programme launched on BBC Two as a British adaptation of an international business-pitch format. Entrepreneurs enter a studio and present their companies to wealthy investors, asking for money in exchange for an ownership stake. The Dragons then question the presenters before deciding whether to make an offer.
The 2005 launch made Dragon's Den part of the BBC's factual-entertainment and business programming. It was not originally a BBC One programme, and its debut date is sometimes confused with the dates on which later Dragons joined the panel.
The UK series subsequently developed a long-running format in which panel membership, presenter line-ups and the businesses seeking investment changed from series to series.
