When did Georgia O'Keeffe die?

Georgia O'Keeffe died on March 6, 1986, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

She was 98 years old. Her long life covered major changes in American art, from early modernism and photography’s rise to the expansion of museums devoted to individual artists.

O'Keeffe’s eyesight deteriorated late in life, and she stopped working in oils in 1972. She continued making art with assistance, including watercolors and works in other media, and remained involved with her studio practice.

Her death came nearly two decades after the death of her husband, photographer and gallerist Alfred Stieglitz. O'Keeffe’s ashes were scattered at Ghost Ranch, a landscape north of Abiquiu that had become central to her artistic identity.
