Which educator's ideas most influenced Georgia O'Keeffe's move toward abstraction?

The story behind the answer

Arthur Wesley Dow's ideas most influenced Georgia O'Keeffe's move toward abstraction.

Dow taught that artists could build strong compositions through relationships among line, color, and form, rather than merely copying the visible world. O'Keeffe encountered his approach through Alon Bement, who taught her in summer courses at the University of Virginia, and later studied directly with Dow at Columbia University Teachers College.

In 1915, O'Keeffe produced a group of abstract charcoal drawings that developed these principles in an unusually personal way. She sent the drawings to a friend, Anita Pollitzer, who showed them to Alfred Stieglitz. Stieglitz exhibited them in New York, helping launch O'Keeffe's professional career. Bement was an important intermediary, but Dow's compositional philosophy is the name most directly associated with the underlying influence.
