Destiny was originally released in 2014. Bungie launched the game worldwide on September 9, 2014, for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
Destiny was Bungie's first major new console franchise after the Halo series. It combined first-person-shooter combat with role-playing features and a shared-world structure, allowing players to explore destinations, complete cooperative strikes, and take part in competitive multiplayer.
The year can be confused with later entries and expansions. Destiny 2 was released in 2017, while major Destiny expansions arrived in different years: The Dark Below in 2014, House of Wolves in 2015, The Taken King in 2015, and Rise of Iron in 2016.
The launch was commercially significant, selling more than $325 million at retail in its first five days and helping establish Destiny as a major live-service game series.
