Which Destiny 2 expansion introduced weapon crafting?

The story behind the answer

The Witch Queen introduced weapon crafting to Destiny 2. Released on February 22, 2022, the expansion let players shape eligible weapons instead of relying entirely on random perk combinations.

Players begin by acquiring weapon patterns, often through weapons with Deepsight Resonance. After unlocking a pattern, they can use the Relic at the Enclave on Mars to create a weapon, select available perks, and later improve or reshape it as it gains experience.

The system was designed to make long-term customization more reliable. Rather than repeatedly farming the same activity for a perfect random drop, players could work toward a known blueprint and assemble a version suited to a preferred play style. The Witch Queen also introduced the glaive, a hybrid weapon with melee, ranged, and defensive functions.

A common confusion is crediting Lightfall with crafting because that expansion changed and simplified parts of the system. The original introduction, however, belongs to The Witch Queen.
