What year was Portal released?
Answer
2007
Answer
2007
Portal was released in 2007. Valve first launched the puzzle-platform game as part of The Orange Box, a compilation that also included Half-Life 2, Episode One, Episode Two, and Team Fortress 2.
The original release arrived for Windows and Xbox 360 on October 10, 2007, followed by the PlayStation 3 version on December 11. Portal was initially a relatively short experimental project, and Valve viewed the other games in the bundle as a safety net in case players did not respond to it.
That concern proved misplaced: Portal became one of the most celebrated games in the package, thanks to its inventive portal-based puzzles, darkly comic writing, and GLaDOS. A standalone retail and Steam release followed in April 2008, which can cause confusion when people remember Portal's separate release rather than its original debut.
