What year did the Lamborghini Gallardo enter production?

The story behind the answer

The Lamborghini Gallardo entered production in 2003.

The V10 Gallardo began production in January 2003, giving Lamborghini a smaller and more accessible model alongside its V12 flagship range. It was named after a renowned Spanish fighting-bull breed, continuing the company’s long-standing bull-themed naming tradition.

The Gallardo was developed during Lamborghini’s early period under Audi ownership. Its five-litre V10, all-wheel-drive layout and combination of manual and automated-manual transmissions helped make the car both exotic and comparatively usable. It also shared a technical relationship with the first-generation Audi R8.

The year 2003 can be confused with later milestones: the Gallardo Spyder arrived in 2006, while production continued until 2013. Lamborghini ultimately built 14,022 examples, making the Gallardo the brand’s best-selling model at the time. Its successor was the Huracán, introduced in 2014.
