What year did The Good Place premiere?

The Good Place premiered in 2016, with its first episode airing on NBC on September 19 of that year. The fantasy-comedy series was created by Michael Schur and began with Eleanor Shellstrop waking in a seemingly perfect afterlife neighborhood.

The premiere introduced the show's unusual mix of jokes, moral philosophy, and mystery. Eleanor learns that she has supposedly earned entry to the Good Place, but quickly realizes that something is wrong with her placement. That setup gives the series its first major question: can a selfish person become genuinely better?

Viewers sometimes confuse the premiere year with the years when later seasons began. Season 2 premiered in 2017, season 3 in 2018, and the fourth and final season in 2019. The series ultimately ran from 2016 through 2020, ending after four seasons and 53 episodes.
