What year did A. Lange & Söhne present its first wristwatch collection after reunification?

The story behind the answer

A. Lange & Söhne presented its first modern wristwatch collection after German reunification in 1994.

Walter Lange revived the family name with help from Günter Blümlein and the Swiss Richemont predecessor Les Manufactures Horlogères. The company unveiled four watches at Dresden’s residential palace on 24 October 1994, marking the return of the historic Saxon brand.

The launch included the Lange 1, Arkade, Saxonia and Tourbillon “Pour le Mérite.” The Lange 1 became the best-known of the group because of its off-centre time display and oversized date, a design that established the modern identity of the company.

The revival followed the reunification of Germany in 1990. It is distinct from Ferdinand A. Lange’s original company, founded in Glashütte in 1845, which had later become part of East Germany’s state-owned watch industry.
