The title of the first Dragon's Den episode broadcast in the United Kingdom was Episode 1.
The British series began in 2005 as a BBC Two programme. Its opening episode established the format for UK viewers: entrepreneurs entered a room, presented their businesses and sought investment from a panel of Dragons in exchange for equity.
Unlike some television programmes that give every episode a distinctive promotional title, the early Dragon's Den listings use straightforward episode numbering. This makes “Episode 1” the canonical listing title rather than a descriptive phrase such as “Welcome to the Den.”
The launch episode is also distinct from the pilot or from later compilation programmes. The UK version was adapted from Japan's Money Tigers and was not the first version of the concept to appear internationally.
