What was the title of the 1997 sequel to the Mortal Kombat film?

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation was the title of the 1997 sequel to the first Mortal Kombat film.

The film followed the 1995 adaptation and continued the conflict involving Earthrealm, Outworld, and Shao Kahn. Its story drew from elements and characters associated with several games, particularly Mortal Kombat 3, while taking substantial liberties with continuity and characterization.

The sequel was released in theaters in November 1997. Robin Shou returned as Liu Kang, while several other roles were recast. The movie expanded the roster of recognizable game characters but was received far less favorably than its predecessor.

The title is easy to mix up with later Mortal Kombat game names. Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is a 2006 fighting game, Mortal Kombat: Legacy is a web series, and Mortal Kombat: Rebirth is a 2010 short film concept.
