Answer
Till We Have Faces
C.S. Lewis’s 1955 fantasy novel about Orual and Psyche is Till We Have Faces.
Till We Have Faces: A Myth Retold was published in 1956 in the United Kingdom and in 1956 in the United States, despite sometimes being dated 1955 because of earlier publication information. It retells the ancient Cupid and Psyche myth from the viewpoint of Orual, Psyche’s sister and the queen of the fictional kingdom of Glome.
The novel is divided into two parts and explores jealousy, love, religious faith, self-knowledge, and the difficulty of seeing oneself honestly. Its title comes from the idea that people cannot truly speak to the gods until they have acquired genuine identities or “faces.”
This book is often mistaken for a children’s fantasy because Lewis is strongly associated with Narnia. It is instead a mature mythic novel, and its narrator Orual is not one of the Pevensie children or a character from Narnia.
