C.S. Lewis’s 1945 science-fiction novel about Venus is Perelandra. It is the second book in Lewis’s Space Trilogy, following Out of the Silent Planet and preceding That Hideous Strength.
The novel follows Elwin Ransom on the planet Venus, which is also called Perelandra. There he encounters a newly created world whose inhabitants face a temptation that echoes the biblical account of humanity’s fall. The setting is radically different from Earth: much of Perelandra consists of floating islands moving across a global ocean.
Perelandra was published in 1945, near the end of the Second World War. Readers sometimes identify the whole trilogy by its first title, Out of the Silent Planet, but each volume has a distinct plot and planetary setting. That Hideous Strength returns primarily to Earth, while Perelandra is the middle installment centered on Venus.
