Beyoncé’s 2016 visual album about race, womanhood, and heritage was titled Lemonade.
Lemonade was released on April 23, 2016, alongside a one-hour film broadcast on HBO. The project combines songs with poetry, spoken narration, and imagery connected to Black identity, family history, relationships, resilience, and the American South.
The album includes collaborations with artists such as Jack White, Kendrick Lamar, James Blake, and The Weeknd. Its songs include “Formation,” “Sorry,” “Hold Up,” and “Freedom.” The project received widespread critical acclaim and won the Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
Lemonade is often described as a visual album because its musical sequence was issued together with an integrated film. It should not be confused with Renaissance, Beyoncé’s 2022 studio album and the first part of her planned three-act project.
