The four children who enter Narnia in C.S. Lewis's first published Narnia novel are the Pevensies. Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie discover the magical land through a wardrobe.
The children are sent away from London during the Second World War and stay in the country home of Professor Kirke. Lucy finds Narnia first, while her siblings initially struggle to accept her account of the wardrobe.
Each child has a distinct role in the story. Peter becomes High King, Susan is associated with archery, Edmund begins as a betrayer before changing, and Lucy is the first to encounter both Narnia and Aslan.
The family name is sometimes confused with other Narnia surnames. The younger characters Eustace Scrubb and Jill Pole belong mainly to later books, while Digory Kirke is the boy at the center of The Magician's Nephew.
