What was the pet's name on "The Flintstones"?

The pet on “The Flintstones” was Dino, the Flintstone family’s lovable pet dinosaur. Although he behaves much like a dog—barking, licking Fred’s face, and reacting to household drama—Dino is identified in the series as a Snorkasaurus.

Dino appeared in the show’s opening credits from the beginning, but the character was not called by name until the first-season episode “No Help Wanted,” which originally aired in 1960. His enthusiastic greeting whenever Fred came home became one of the program’s best-known recurring gags.

The character’s design and role deliberately blend prehistoric fantasy with ordinary suburban-pet behavior. Dino plays with Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm, becomes jealous or frightened, and occasionally develops romantic storylines involving other dinosaur characters. In “Dino Disappears,” the show gives a comic explanation for how he joined the family: he followed Fred home after an encounter in which Fred tried to chase him away.

Dino was voiced primarily through vocal effects by Mel Blanc for many years. He also appeared in later Flintstones spin-offs, animated specials, and live-action films.
