Virgil Abloh’s fashion project was originally called PYREX VISION before it became Off-White.
Abloh launched PYREX VISION in 2012 by printing “PYREX” branding and graphics onto existing garments, including pieces associated with Ralph Lauren. The project attracted attention because it treated recognizable clothing, bold text, and art-world presentation as parts of the same visual language.
Abloh then developed the concept into Off-White, a label positioned between streetwear and luxury fashion. Off-White became known for quotation marks, diagonal stripes, industrial imagery, and collaborations that brought high-fashion techniques to sneakers and everyday products.
The early name is a common point of confusion because PYREX VISION was short-lived and is sometimes described as an earlier label rather than part of Off-White’s origin story. Off-White was formally established in 2012, the same year Abloh began the project that preceded it.
