Answer
Victory Trophy
Answer
Victory Trophy
The FIFA World Cup trophy was originally called the Victory Trophy before it was renamed the Jules Rimet Trophy in 1946.
The trophy was designed by French sculptor Abel Lafleur and presented for the first World Cup in Uruguay in 1930. It depicted a golden figure holding an octagonal cup and was awarded to the tournament’s winning nation.
In 1946, FIFA renamed the trophy to honor Jules Rimet, who had served as FIFA president when the World Cup was created. Uruguay won the inaugural tournament, followed by Italy in 1934 and 1938. During the Second World War, Italy’s trophy was hidden for safekeeping by Italian official Ottorino Barassi.
Brazil permanently kept the Jules Rimet Trophy after winning its third World Cup in 1970. The trophy was stolen in Brazil in 1983 and was never recovered. FIFA introduced the modern World Cup Trophy for the 1974 tournament.
