Túrin used the sword Gurthang to kill Glaurung in J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology.
Gurthang is the later name of Anglachel, a sword forged from meteoric iron by the dark smith Eöl. Thingol receives the blade, and Beleg Strongbow later carries it. After Túrin accidentally kills Beleg, Túrin takes the sword and has it reforged in Nargothrond. Its new name means Iron of Death.
Túrin uses Gurthang to strike Glaurung beneath the dragon’s belly at Cabed-en-Aras. The weapon therefore becomes central to one of the key episodes in The Children of Húrin. Its story does not end with the dragon’s death: after Túrin learns the full truth of his family’s fate, he falls upon the sword and dies.
Anglachel and Gurthang are names for the same blade at different stages. Glamdring is Gandalf’s sword, while Narsil and Andúril belong to the history of Elendil and Aragorn.
