Answer
King Edward’s School
J.R.R. Tolkien studied at King Edward’s School in Birmingham from 1900 to 1902. He later returned to the school after his family moved and attended it again from 1903 until 1911.
At King Edward’s School, Tolkien developed interests in languages, philology, and medieval literature. He also participated in the school’s debating society and helped create a small student group known as the Tea Club and Barrovian Society, or T.C.B.S., with several friends.
The T.C.B.S. friendships were important in Tolkien’s early intellectual life. Its members shared poetry, languages, and literary ambitions, although the group’s history was shaped by the First World War and the deaths of Tolkien’s friends Geoffrey Bache Smith and Robert Gilson. Tolkien later attended Exeter College, Oxford, but King Edward’s School was his major Birmingham school.
