What was the name of the owl puppet in Make-Believe?
Answer
X the Owl
Answer
X the Owl
The owl puppet in the Land of Make-Believe was X the Owl.
X the Owl lived inside an old oak tree in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Fred Rogers performed the puppet in the original series. X was cheerful, curious, and eager to learn, making him one of the show's most recognisable residents.
Many of X's stories involved lessons from the Owl Correspondence School. He was especially interested in Benjamin Franklin and often approached problems through reading, study, and careful thought. At the same time, X could have trouble making decisions, giving the character a gently comic and relatable imperfection.
The letter in his name is deliberate: he is X the Owl, not simply “the Owl,” and the character is not named O or U. X was also part of the earlier television program The Children's Corner, where he became one of the puppet characters later carried into Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. His home in the oak tree is one of the recurring locations in the imaginary neighborhood.
