What was the name of the New Mexico town where Georgia O'Keeffe kept a historic home?

The story behind the answer

Abiquiú was the New Mexico town where Georgia O'Keeffe kept her historic home.

O'Keeffe purchased and restored a nineteenth-century adobe house in Abiquiú during the 1940s. The property included a courtyard, a distinctive gate, and a wall with a door that became recurring subjects in her paintings. She used the home and studio as a base while working in northern New Mexico.

Abiquiú is often confused with Santa Fe because the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum is located in Santa Fe and the city is strongly associated with her legacy. O'Keeffe’s first New Mexico home was at Ghost Ranch, however, and her Abiquiú property provided a more settled working environment. These locations represent different parts of her relationship with the region.

The Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1998. The property is preserved as a museum site, offering insight into how the artist arranged her living and working spaces.
