What was the name of the NASA mission that first landed humans on the Moon?

The story behind the answer

Apollo 11 was the NASA mission that first landed humans on the Moon.

The mission launched from Florida on 16 July 1969 with astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. Armstrong and Aldrin landed the lunar module Eagle in the Sea of Tranquility on 20 July, while Collins remained in lunar orbit in the command module Columbia.

Armstrong became the first person to step onto the lunar surface, followed shortly by Aldrin. The astronauts collected rocks and soil, deployed scientific instruments and spent about 21 hours and 36 minutes on the surface before rejoining Collins.

Apollo 11 returned safely to Earth on 24 July 1969. Apollo 8 had already carried humans around the Moon in 1968, but it did not land. Five later Apollo missions also landed astronauts on the Moon, with Apollo 17 making the final crewed lunar landing in 1972.
