Answer
The Inklings
Answer
The Inklings
The literary group C.S. Lewis hosted at Oxford was called the Inklings. It was an informal discussion circle whose members read drafts of works aloud and debated literature, religion, and ideas.
Meetings took place mainly at Oxford’s Eagle and Child pub, nicknamed the Bird and Baby, and sometimes in Lewis’s college rooms. J.R.R. Tolkien was the other best-known member; Charles Williams and Owen Barfield also participated. The group was active from the 1930s into the early 1950s.
The Inklings was not a formal society with elected officers or a membership roll. Its importance comes from personal exchange: Tolkien’s developing Lord of the Rings and Lewis’s fiction and apologetics were discussed among friends before publication.
