What was the name of the Indian king defeated by Alexander at the Hydaspes?

The story behind the answer

The Indian king defeated by Alexander at the Battle of the Hydaspes was King Porus. The battle took place in May 326 BC on the banks of the Hydaspes River, now known as the Jhelum, in the Punjab region of present-day Pakistan.

Porus commanded an army that included infantry, cavalry, chariots, and war elephants. Alexander crossed the swollen river upstream during a storm, using feints and nighttime movements to deceive Porus. The maneuver allowed Alexander to attack from an unexpected direction and defeat the Paurava army after a hard-fought battle.

Unlike many defeated rulers, Porus was not removed from power. According to the ancient accounts, Alexander was impressed by his courage and restored him as a local ruler, while expanding his territory. The battle is sometimes called the Battle of Jhelum. Taxiles was Alexander’s ally, not the defeated king, while Ashoka and Chandragupta Maurya belonged to the later Mauryan period.
