The freight network founded by Dragon's Den investor Hilary Devey was Pall-Ex.
Pall-Ex is a palletised freight distribution network. Devey established the company in 1996, developing a model in which independent transport businesses could work through a coordinated network to move palletised goods efficiently across the United Kingdom and beyond.
Her experience building Pall-Ex was central to her reputation as an entrepreneur before she joined Dragon's Den. It also explains why logistics, distribution and operational businesses were natural areas of interest for her on the investment panel.
Pall-Ex is not the same as a conventional parcel-delivery company or a single-fleet haulage firm. Its network structure is the important distinguishing feature. The company name is also sometimes written with a hyphen and capital letters, so “Pall-Ex” is the standard answer rather than a generic description such as pallet delivery.
