What was the name of the first chimpanzee Goodall observed using a tool?

The story behind the answer

The first chimpanzee Jane Goodall observed using a tool was David Greybeard. In 1960 at Gombe National Park, she watched him push blades of grass into a termite mound and pull them out with termites attached.

Goodall initially did not understand what David was doing. After he left, she approached the mound and repeated the behavior, discovering that the termites clung to the grass because they bit it. David was effectively using the grass as a tool to fish for termites. He later became one of the chimpanzees most closely associated with Goodall’s early discoveries.

The observation was scientifically revolutionary because many researchers then believed that tool-making and tool use separated humans from other animals. Goodall soon observed chimpanzees stripping leaves from twigs and using the stems to extract insects, demonstrating not only tool use but tool modification. David Greybeard is sometimes confused with Goliath, another named chimpanzee at Gombe; Goliath was a companion of David, not the first individual in this famous observation.
