The fictional inn where Frodo first met Aragorn in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring was the Prancing Pony. It stands in Bree, a settlement inhabited by both Hobbits and Men.
Frodo, Sam, and Pippin stay at the inn during their journey from the Shire. Frodo uses the name Mr. Underhill, but his identity becomes endangered when he puts on the One Ring while singing and dancing. Aragorn, who is introduced there under the name Strider, warns the Hobbits and offers to guide them toward Rivendell.
The Prancing Pony is not the same establishment as the Green Dragon, an inn in Hobbiton associated with the Shire. Nor is it the Golden Perch, an inn at Stock, or the Ivy Bush, another Shire inn. Bree’s inn is a key meeting point because it brings the Hobbits into contact with the Ranger who becomes central to the quest.
