What was the name of the fellowship formed in Rivendell in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings?
Answer
The Fellowship of the Ring
Answer
The Fellowship of the Ring
The fellowship formed in Rivendell in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings was the Fellowship of the Ring. The group is created after the Council of Elrond decides that the One Ring must be destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom, where it was made.
The Fellowship consists of nine companions representing the Free Peoples: Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Merry Brandybuck, Pippin Took, Aragorn, Boromir, Legolas, Gimli, and Gandalf. Their number is deliberately set against the nine Ringwraiths. The company leaves Rivendell together, though it later breaks apart after the events at Amon Hen.
The Fellowship of the Ring is also the title of the first volume of Tolkien’s three-volume novel. “The Nine Walkers” describes the group’s numerical symbolism, but it is not the formal name used for the company. The Company of Thorin belongs to The Hobbit and is a different group.
