What was the name of the dragon slain by Túrin in J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology?

The story behind the answer

Túrin slew the dragon Glaurung in J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology.

Glaurung is known as the Father of Dragons and serves Morgoth during the First Age. He appears prominently in the tragic story later published as The Children of Húrin. Glaurung uses intelligence, speech, and a hypnotic gaze as weapons, manipulating Túrin’s sister Nienor and helping bring about the family’s catastrophe.

Túrin eventually confronts the dragon at Cabed-en-Aras. He hides in a ravine and strikes Glaurung from below with his sword Gurthang. The wound is fatal, but Glaurung’s final words and deceptive influence continue the tragedy after his death.

Glaurung is distinct from Smaug, the dragon of The Hobbit, and Ancalagon the Black, the enormous dragon slain by Eärendil during the War of Wrath. Scatha is another dragon from the northern history of Middle-earth.
