The doctor who performed Albert Einstein's autopsy was Thomas Stoltz Harvey. Harvey was an American pathologist at Princeton Hospital, where he examined Einstein after the physicist died on April 18, 1955.

Harvey became famous—and controversial—for removing and preserving Einstein's brain for scientific study. He initially did so without documented prior permission from Einstein or his family, but the family later allowed the research to continue under the condition that findings be published scientifically rather than sensationalized.

The brain weighed about 1,230 grams, a figure within the normal human range. Harvey later took it to the University of Pennsylvania, where he preserved and sectioned it for microscopic examination. He divided it into numerous blocks and distributed tissue or slides to selected neuropathologists.

The story is often confused with the later research itself. Harvey performed the autopsy and preserved the brain, but he was not the only scientist to study it. Researchers including Marian Diamond and Dean Falk subsequently examined portions, photographs, and tissue.
