What was the name of the battle where Alexander defeated King Porus?

The story behind the answer

Alexander defeated King Porus at the Battle of the Hydaspes.

The battle took place in 326 BC during Alexander’s Indian campaign, on the banks of the Hydaspes River in the Punjab. The river is now known as the Jhelum and flows through modern-day Pakistan. Porus, ruler of the Paurava kingdom, refused to submit and prepared to stop Alexander’s army from crossing.

Alexander used deception and repeated feints to make Porus believe that a crossing was unlikely. During a storm, Alexander led a force upstream, crossed the river and attacked from an unexpected direction. The Macedonians eventually overcame Porus’s army, which included infantry, cavalry, chariots and war elephants.

Porus fought bravely and was captured. Ancient accounts say Alexander admired his courage and allowed him to continue ruling, while expanding his territory. The battle was one of Alexander’s hardest and most costly victories. Soon afterward, his exhausted troops refused to advance beyond the Hyphasis River, marking the eastern limit of his conquests.
