What was the name of the American fort that withstood a siege in 1813 in Ohio?

The story behind the answer

The American fort that withstood a siege in Ohio in 1813 was Fort Meigs.

Built along the Maumee River near present-day Perrysburg, Fort Meigs served as a major American supply depot and staging point during the War of 1812. Major General William Henry Harrison ordered its construction in February 1813 as part of efforts to recover Detroit and protect the Northwest frontier.

British forces under Brigadier General Henry Procter, supported by Indigenous warriors led by Tecumseh, began the first siege in late April. The fort’s heavy earthworks helped absorb bombardment, while its defenders resisted pressure despite shortages and fierce fighting outside the walls. Procter withdrew on May 9 after roughly eleven days.

A second siege attempt took place in July, but it also failed. The fort’s name honors Return J. Meigs Jr., then governor of Ohio. It is sometimes confused with Fort Stephenson, another Ohio fort whose small garrison repelled a British attack later in 1813.
