What was the name of the alpha male of the Kasekela community during the Four-Year War?

The story behind the answer

The alpha male of the Kasekela community during the Four-Year War was Figan.

Figan became alpha of the Kasakela chimpanzees in 1972, shortly before the community’s split and the outbreak of the Gombe Chimpanzee War. The conflict lasted from 1974 to 1978 and pitted the northern Kasakela community against the breakaway Kahama community in Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania.

Figan’s power depended heavily on alliances. He helped lead Kasakela males during attacks on Kahama males, but his position was not permanently secure. After his older brother Faben died in 1975, Figan temporarily lost undisputed dominance, although he remained highly ranked. By forming coalitions with other males, including former rival Humphrey, he regained the alpha position by 1977.

Frodo is a common mix-up because he later became a famously aggressive alpha male of the Kasakela community. David Greybeard was the older male who first helped Jane Goodall gain close access to wild chimpanzees, while Goliath belonged to the Kahama side and was killed during the war.
