What was the name of the 2017 hard fork that created Bitcoin Cash from Bitcoin?
Answer
Bitcoin Cash
Answer
Bitcoin Cash
Bitcoin Cash was the 2017 hard fork that created a separate cryptocurrency from Bitcoin.
The split occurred on 1 August 2017 after disagreements about how Bitcoin should scale. Bitcoin Cash increased the maximum block size, allowing more transaction data in each block than Bitcoin’s original chain rules permitted.
The fork gave people holding bitcoin a corresponding balance on the new Bitcoin Cash chain, although the two networks quickly developed separate markets, communities, and software. Bitcoin Cash is sometimes confused with Bitcoin SV, which later split from Bitcoin Cash in 2018.
A hard fork changes rules in a way that older software may reject. When participants do not agree on the new rules, the blockchain can divide into separate networks. Bitcoin Cash remains distinct from Bitcoin and has its own ticker, BCH.
