What was the name of McDonald’s service system that inspired the mascot Speedee?
Answer
Speedee Service System
Answer
Speedee Service System
The service system that inspired McDonald’s mascot Speedee was the Speedee Service System.
Maurice and Richard McDonald introduced the system after reorganizing their San Bernardino, California, restaurant in 1948. They reduced the menu, standardized preparation, and arranged kitchen work so food could be produced quickly and consistently, much like an assembly line.
The system helped establish the operating model later associated with modern fast food. Customers received a smaller selection of inexpensive items with less waiting time, while the restaurant could serve more people using repeatable procedures.
Speedee’s name and chef-like appearance turned that operational promise into a visual character. Ray Kroc later expanded the McDonald’s business through franchising, but the Speedee Service System originated with the McDonald brothers before Kroc’s major expansion. It should not be confused with the later “I’m Lovin’ It” advertising campaign.
