Answer
Speedee Service System
Answer
Speedee Service System
McDonald’s original operating system introduced in 1948 was called the Speedee Service System.
Richard and Maurice McDonald created the system when they reorganized their San Bernardino restaurant around speed, consistency, and a sharply reduced menu. They removed carhops and much of the earlier barbecue offering, then used a production-line approach to prepare hamburgers, fries, and beverages quickly.
The name connected the system with Speedee, an early McDonald’s mascot associated with service speed. The operational idea was more important to the company’s later growth than the mascot itself: standardized tasks made it easier to train workers and reproduce the same customer experience.
Ray Kroc later recognized the franchise potential of the McDonald brothers’ methods. The system should not be confused with a later advertising slogan or with the modern brand name. It described the restaurant’s service and production model during the formative period of McDonald’s history.
