Mac Tonight was the name of McDonald's moon-headed character in the 1980s advertising campaign.
The campaign presented Mac Tonight as a crooning, tuxedo-wearing crescent-moon figure who promoted McDonald's evening hours. Its commercials used a rewritten version of the song “Mack the Knife,” giving the character a distinctive musical identity.
Mac Tonight was aimed at making McDonald's feel like an appealing dinner destination rather than only a daytime fast-food stop. The character became one of the chain's most recognizable advertising creations of that decade.
Mac Tonight is not the same character as McDonaldland's Grimace or Hamburglar; he belonged to a separate campaign centered on nighttime dining.
