Speedee was McDonald's first official corporate mascot.
Introduced in connection with the brothers' Speedee Service System, Speedee was a chef-like character whose design communicated fast food and efficient service. His name echoed the restaurant's emphasis on speed, a central part of its early identity after the 1948 operating redesign.
Speedee was later displaced in advertising by Ronald McDonald, who became the chain's best-known character. The mascot is also easy to confuse with later McDonald's characters such as Mayor McCheese, the Hamburglar, and Grimace. Speedee's importance is mainly historical: he links the brand's earliest visual identity to its original fast-service promise.
