Speedee was the name of McDonald's first mascot, used in the company's original 1948 logo.
Speedee was depicted as a chef-like figure and represented the speed of the restaurant's service system. The mascot matched the early McDonald's emphasis on fast preparation and a streamlined menu, before the Golden Arches became the company's main visual identifier.
The character is distinct from Ronald McDonald, who appeared later as a clown aimed primarily at children's advertising. It is also distinct from the Speedy service concept associated with the McDonald brothers' operating model.
As McDonald's expanded, the company moved toward the arches and the name itself as its principal branding assets. Speedee therefore belongs to the chain's earliest identity and is not the mascot most modern customers associate with McDonald's.
