McDonald's first mascot was Speedee.
Speedee represented the restaurant's original emphasis on rapid preparation and efficient service. The character was depicted as a chef with a hamburger-like head, visually linking the mascot to both the kitchen and the food being sold.
The mascot accompanied the Speedee Service System developed by Richard and Maurice McDonald. That system simplified the menu and standardized food preparation, helping establish the operating model that later made McDonald's highly scalable.
Speedee is sometimes overlooked because Ronald McDonald became much more famous and remained central to family advertising for decades. However, Ronald belonged to a later branding phase. Speedee came first and reflected a practical restaurant promise: customers could receive a simple meal quickly and consistently.
