“I’m Lovin’ It” was McDonald’s first major global advertising campaign built around a slogan and song.
McDonald’s launched the campaign in 2003 as an international platform intended to give the brand a consistent identity across markets. Its most recognizable elements were the slogan, a pop-oriented musical treatment, and the “ba da ba ba ba” vocal tag.
The campaign was notable because it connected a short phrase with music rather than relying only on a conventional product-focused tagline. Justin Timberlake appeared in an early music video associated with the campaign, helping give the launch a contemporary pop-culture profile.
Earlier McDonald’s advertising used famous lines such as “You Deserve a Break Today,” but those campaigns did not create the same long-running global combination of phrase and musical signature. “I’m Lovin’ It” became the durable international branding platform.
