Speedee was the name of McDonald’s early hamburger mascot shown with a chef’s hat.
Speedee appeared in McDonald’s branding during the restaurant’s early years, when the business emphasized quick preparation and its “Speedee Service System.” The character was generally depicted as a smiling chef-like figure associated with fast service and hamburgers.
Speedee predates Ronald McDonald and the later McDonaldland characters. As McDonald’s expanded, the company shifted toward the Golden Arches and a broader cast of advertising characters, so Speedee became much less visible. That change reflects the company’s movement from a local drive-in identity to a standardized international brand.
People sometimes confuse Speedee with the modern “speed” idea represented by the arches or with later mascots. Speedee was an actual named character used in early McDonald’s visual identity.
