Mayor McCheese was McDonaldland’s cheese-themed mayor.
The character had a large cheeseburger-shaped head and appeared as an authority figure in McDonald’s fantasy advertising world. His title and design turned familiar restaurant ingredients into memorable personalities for children’s commercials and promotions.
Mayor McCheese belonged to the same McDonaldland group as Ronald McDonald, Grimace, and the Hamburglar. The campaign’s characters gave McDonald’s a shared fictional setting in which food, restaurant imagery, and playful adventures could be combined.
Mayor McCheese is sometimes confused with Officer Big Mac because both were civic-style characters. Their names identify the distinction: Mayor McCheese had the cheeseburger head and mayoral role, while Officer Big Mac was associated with law enforcement in McDonaldland.
