What was the name of Leo Tolstoy’s youngest child?
Answer
Ivan Tolstoy
Answer
Ivan Tolstoy
Leo Tolstoy’s youngest child was his son Ivan Tolstoy.
Ivan was born in 1888 to Leo Tolstoy and Sofya Tolstaya. He was the last of their 13 children, born more than two decades after his parents married. His birth came during the period when Tolstoy was producing major fiction and increasingly writing about religion, ethics, and social reform.
Ivan died in 1895 at the age of seven. His early death was one of several losses that affected the Tolstoy family, five of whose children died during childhood or infancy. Family illness and bereavement appear repeatedly in Tolstoy’s diaries and letters.
Ivan is sometimes confused with Tolstoy’s older son Ilya, who was born in 1866, or with other members of the extensive Tolstoy family. The youngest-child answer refers specifically to the children of Leo and Sofya Tolstaya.
