What was the name of Leo Tolstoy’s eldest son?
Answer
Sergei
Answer
Sergei
Leo Tolstoy’s eldest son was Sergei Tolstoy. Sergei was born in 1863, the first child of Leo Tolstoy and Sofya Behrs, who married in 1862.
The Tolstoys had thirteen children, although five died before reaching adulthood. Their large household at Yasnaya Polyana became an important setting for Tolstoy’s family life, literary work, and educational experiments.
Sergei should not be confused with Tolstoy’s other sons, including Ilya, Lev, Andrei, and Mikhail. Several family members later published memoirs and recollections that contributed to the historical record of the novelist’s domestic and intellectual life.
