In School of Rock, Jack Black plays Dewey Finn, a struggling guitarist who turns a classroom of students into a rock band.
Dewey begins the film as the loud, impulsive guitarist for the fictional band No Vacancy. After being thrown out, he needs money and impersonates his roommate Ned Schneebly to obtain a substitute-teaching job at the prestigious Horace Green school.
Although Dewey initially plans to collect his paycheck without teaching, he notices his students' musical abilities and assigns them roles in a new band. The students become a singer, guitarists, a bassist, keyboardist, drummer, security team, and more as Dewey prepares them for the Battle of the Bands.
Viewers sometimes confuse Dewey Finn with Ned Schneebly because Dewey uses Ned's identity at school. Ned is the roommate whose name and job Dewey takes, while Dewey Finn is Jack Black's actual character.
